Washington School

The Merced River School District was formed July 1, 1974. The district covers a rural area of approximately thirty square miles located in eastern Merced County near the cities of Atwater, Merced, Snelling and Winton. The district is made up of diversified farming, dairying and ranching. The district now operates just one school for students attending classes in transitional kindergarten through the eighth grade. For many years, our district consisted of two campuses: Hopeton Elementary (TK-3) and Washington Elementary (4-8). Due to declining enrollment, our district decided to close down the Hopeton site and combine the campuses onto the Washington School site.  We now have approximately 178 students, which represents a growth of 28 students over the 2014-15 school year.  We have now sustained this enrollment increase over 2 years.
